Counselling

A one to one talking therapy - that seeks to honour the individual through developing rapport by; being present, reflective listening, asking questions that lead to reflection and insight, affirming the ability for positive steps towards the goal and a pathway forward.

Children and Adolescents can often feel powerless about their circumstances. Whilst no one can change others they have the power to be proactive by learning to look at and understand; their own feelings, their own decisions and their responses to things that affect them. They have the power within, regardless of their age to make new choices. Implementing alternatives within their control, they can create positive change in their lives with the supportive environment of counselling.

I have always had a passion for working with children and adolescents*. Having worked in secondary education system for 34 years I have been very blessed to meet and work with many students.

At the heart of my approach is developing rapport based on a deep respect for the young person.  I appreciate and value their own insights and wisdom based on their experiences.

Through counselling I aim to assist them to navigate the challenges that they encounter with a focus on their strengths and what is within their control to change.  I use a combination of techniques, Brief Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy are two examples.

Without a doubt the best results occur when children and adolescents freely choose counselling, by being willing to show up and be present - fully engaging in the process. This presence makes a positive difference in them being able to initiate positive change through their choices.

I have had experience working with children and adolescents on a broad range of issues and am particularly keen to work with those in Year 5 - Year 8 managing anxiety as well.

I am a registered Clinical Member of Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation Australia (PACFA) and have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC).

* I have counselled students in an all boys Year 5 - 12 school as well as Year 7 - 12 schools (both all girls and all boys schools).

Counselling appointments are currently unavailable at this time.
